Shakira
Isabel Mebarak Ripoll was born on February 2, 1977, in Barranquilla, Colombia. Shakira is a singer,
songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, dancer, choreographer, arranger, producer, philanthropist,
entrepreneur, and Colombian actress. Despite having grown up as an only child,
Shakira has eight half-siblings resulting from a previous
marriage of
his father.
With
only four years old she wrote a poem entitled "La Rosa De Cristal" ("The Crystal Rose"). Fascinated to see her father writing stories on a typewriter, she asked him one, as a present.
Her desire was satisfied with 7 years and was on that machine that she wrote the first songs. In choosing, began to dance,
becoming a true expert in belly dancing. When auditioning for the choir of his Catholic school was rejected.
In her teens Shakira met Monica Ariza, a producer of local theater that was very impressed
with her
talent and who promised to help her in her career. Ariza gave Shakira a meeting with the Sony Colombia executive Ciro Vargas, who would be crucial forthe singer to sign her first professional contract. Through Ciro Vargas, Shakira signed a contract with Sony Colombia to record three albums. The first album, named Magic, was recorded by Sony Music Colombia in 1990, when the singer was just 13 years.Her second album would be “Peligro”.
A little later, she entered the Colombian TV series "The Oasis”.
There followed her first official album, “Piez Descalzos”, recorded in 1995.It was released immediately afterwards,
the album "The
Remixes" which included three versions of their most popular themes in Portuguese, in order to explore the Brazilian market. Her second official album, "Dónde Están los Ladrones?” gave
the artist his firstGrammy nomination.
The following albums were: Laundry Service and Oral Fijación Vol.1 (2001), Oral Fixation Vol. 2 (2005), She Wolf (2009) and Sale el Sol (2010).These albums earned the singer two Grammy Awards, eight Latin Grammy Awards, four MTV Video Music
Awards, EMA 1, 2 AMA, BMA 3, 22 Latin Billboard Awards, 3 WMA and 4 NRJ Music Awards,
and Shakira has sold more than 60 million albums around the world.
Outside of the show, Shakira launched her own foundation, the Barefoot Foundation,
designed to help needy
children in
Colombia. Her foundation provides assistance to more than four thousand children.
She started dating Antonio de la Rúa, the eldest son of Fernando de la Rúa, former president of Argentina in 2000.The relationship lasted eleven years, until in January 2010; Shakira said that both had agreed to separate. A few months after the revelation of her split with De la Rúa, Shakira began to be seen with the Barcelona central defender Gerard Pique. The formalization of the relationship would be made by the singer, at March 29, 2011 via Twitter and Facebook.
